Nazri's open letter to Awang Selamat

Ada yang tak kena ke? ---------------------------

Nazri's open letter to Awang Selamat

By: (Sep 20, 2010)

I HAVE read the comments by Awang Selamat on me in his column. I want to make some clarifications lest readers might be misled into thinking what he wrote is correct.

Firstly, I am never afraid to be criticised by the opposition. I would like Awang to come to Parliament and see and hear for himself the vitriols and attacks I received whilst defending the government on issues related to the prime minister's office. In my 33 years of politics, I was never spared by anybody who make criticism against me, including the recent comments by Awang.

I don't know about Awang himself because I don't even know who he is. I hope he can be a man like me and prove that he is not scared of criticism by coming out in the open and not hiding behind the pseudonym that he used.

I am also not anti-(Tun) Dr Mahathir (Mohamad). To me, so far, he is the best prime minister I have served. However, as an ex-premier, there is so much left to be desired.

Awang should get out of his time warp and face the fact that I am now in the government as a minister in the Prime Minister's Department and not vice versa. So it is Tun Mahathir criticising the government and not the other way around.

Of course, anybody regardless who criticises the government will receive relentless attacks in defense of the government by me just as I had done in the past when Tun Mahathir and Tun Abdullah (Ahmad Badawi) were prime ministers.

Having said that, I want Awang to know that I am always sure who my boss is. It's not (Lim) Kit Siang nor (Datuk Seri) Anwar (Ibrahim) because they are not prime ministers of Malaysia, the chairman of Barisan Nasional or president of Umno. I am not too sure Awang knows who his boss is because he undermines the 1Malaysia policy of the prime minister and promotes the narrow racism of Ibrahim Ali who is not even an Umno member.

Awang should be asking himself the question he posed to me.

Being civil to the opposition is the right thing to do in a democracy because just like me, they are also elected by the people. Of course, Awang is caught in the time warp of those days where government MPs do not only not engage them but hate and dislike them in all circumstances. Awang will never understand this because he is not an elected MP put in the House by the voice of the people.

Anyway, has Awang ever thought of how five PKR MPs could cross to the independent group, if not for the civility shown by me to them as Parliamentary Affairs Minister? The number of crossovers to the independent caucus has exceeded the single MP from Pasir Mas, this so called Malay Hero worshipped by Awang.

Incidentally, Umno has never asked or needed for Ibrahim to help us but association with him will only cause us to lose votes. Tun Mahathir himself told us about his loss in Kota Setar Selatan seat in a 90% Malay majority parliamentary constituency in 1969 to Yusof Rawa where it was reported that Tun said he didn't need Chinese votes. There is a lesson to be learned from this.

Of course, Awang will never understand because not only he has never offered himself as a candidate for the general election but readers don't even know who he is.

Politicians like me who have stood for four general elections and won clearly have to be very careful in what we say and not be reckless like Awang. We need to muster all the votes regardless of race and we do not stay in the comfort zone as Awang does. He can write and say anything irresponsibly and recklessly knowing that he will never be punished by the voters.

That is why Awang, if you ask what my agenda is, I think every school children will know that it's to win the next general election and that Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak remains as prime minister of Malaysia. I do hope that Awang also has the same agenda unless of course his boss is somebody else.

Finally, I would advise Awang to stick to what he does and knows best and not try to meddle in national politics of which he has shallow knowledge and zero experience. He should concentrate on increasing his paper's dwindling readership. It speaks volumes on their poor standard and performance when Utusanhas to refer to the news report from the new electronic media when it should be the reverse.

That will be his KPI and the measurement of his success in the field that he claims he represents well.

Mine is, of course, to win the Padang Rengas seat for BN in the next general election regardless whether I am a candidate or not. Until then,we shall see.

And, yes, I am a Malaysian first and Malay next. Does any bigot have a problem with that?

Nazri spews an earful at Utusan columnist

By: Hemananthani Sivanandam (Sep 20, 2010)

newsdesk@thesundaily.com

PETALING JAYA (Sept 20, 2010): Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Aziz is taking on Malay daily Utusan Malaysia columnist Awang Selamat for accusing him of being "too chummy" with the opposition and questioned his allegiance to the prime minister.

"I would advise Awang to stick to what he does and knows best and not try to meddle in national politics of which he has shallow knowledge and zero experience," said Nazri in a strongly-worded letter today.

The letter was in response to Utusan's weekend editorial titled "Alahai Nazri" on Sunday under the Bisik-Bisik Mingguan column.

In the editorial, Awang wrote that Nazri is well liked by opposition leaders as he had been lenient with them and (as such had) not become a target of their criticism.

"According to stories from several Umno leaders, Nazri has been lenient with the opposition. According to stories, because of his strategy, Nazri is now well liked by opposition leaders.

"If that assumption is true, I can also ask who Nazri's real leader is — (Datuk Seri) Najib Abdul Razak, (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim or perhaps Lim Kit Siang?" wrote Awang.

Nazri, in his letter which was provided to theSun, said that he is "always sure" of who his boss is and being civil with the opposition is the right thing to do.

"I want Awang to know that I am always sure who my boss is. It's neither Kit Siang nor Anwar because they are not the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the chairman of BN or president of Umno.

"Awang is caught in the time warp of those days where government MPs do not only not engage them but hate and dislike them in all circumstances.

"Awang will never understand this because he is not an elected MP put in the House of Parliament by the voice of the people," said Nazri.

Awang also wrote that Nazri has to accept the fact that Perkasa is merely a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and Malays know how to differentiate between a political party and an NGO.

On Sept 12, former prime minister  and Perkasa patron Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Umno risked losing the next general election if it completely rejected the Malays rights group.

Following this, Utusan Malaysia has been carrying opinions, features and stories that back the former premier and Perkasa.

The conservative Umno newspaper even published a series of quotes from ordinary Malays accompanied by photographs, under the headline "Majority of Malays support Perkasa".

This led Nazri to question if the newspaper was trying to undermine Najib's administration and conspire to replace the prime minister with Mahathir.

Awang in Sunday's column said he was surprised as to how Nazri could have such thoughts and accused the minister of being "anti-Mahathir".

"Even if I lose my job, I will still support Najib. There is no doubt about that. Therefore the question of having an agenda to make Dr Mahathir as a prime minister does not arise. Even a school kid knows that," he wrote.

Nazri refuted Awang's claims that he was anti-Mahathir and added that he has and will continue to lash out against those who criticised the government.

The Padang Renggas MP said that it was easier for Awang to write anything because he will not be punished by voters.

"Politicians like me who have stood for four general elections and won clearly have to be very careful in what we say and not be reckless like Awang.

"We need to muster all the votes regardless of race and we do not stay in the comfort zone as Awang does."

Nazri also said his agenda is to win the next general election, and to ensure that Najib remains as prime minister.

"I do hope that Awang also has the same agenda unless of course his boss is somebody else," he said.

Sosilawati, 3 others murdered, bodies burnt

By: (Sep 12, 2010)

BANTING (Sept 12, 2010):
Cosmetic millionaire Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya, 47, and three others have been murdered and their bodies burnt and ashes strewn at a river near Ladang Gadong, in Tanjong Sepat, hear here, police said.

Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin said however that police still needed the forensic confirmation to fully ascertain the matter.

He was speaking at a news conference at Banting police headquarters here.

Three others were Sosilawati's driver Kamaruddin Shamsudin, 44, CIMB Kampung Baru bank officer Noorhisham Mohammad, 38, and her personal lawyer Ahmad Kamil Abdul Karim, 32.

They were reported missing since Aug 30 after going here for a land purchase deal.

Earlier, a police forensic team arrived at the farm in Tanjong Sepat near here around noon, bringing with them two men in lock-up attire, believed to be among those picked up in connection with the disappearance of Sosilawati and three others.

The media, who were at the entrance of the Ladang Gadong integrated farm, saw two convoys of police cars entering the site with at least two men in lock-up attire inside.

A policeman said they were taken to a site about 100m from the main road, believed to be part of the investigations into the disappearance of Sosilawati, the founder of Nouvelle Visages (NV) cosmetic line.

The forensic team had also gone to a restaurant about four kilometres from the scene as part of the investigations into the case.

Police helicopters were seen hovering over the area.

Incoming Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar told reporters in Kuala Lumpur that police believed they would be able to solve the case swiftly following the arrest of at least four men.

He declined to reveal the identities of suspects although there were speculations that two of them were lawyers.

A relative of Sosilawati when met at the millionaire's home in Gombak said police contacted them this afternoon on the likelihood that the millionaire's remains had been found in Tanjong Sepat.

"But they will have to carry a DNA test to confirm it," he said.

Sosilawati's ex-husband known only as Buhari was seen entering the house at about 12.30pm.

Sosilawati and the three others were reported missing nearly two weeks ago after coming here for a land purchase deal.

A week later, police found Sosilawati's BMW at Angsana Apartment in USJ 1, Subang Jaya and the BMW of Ahmad Kamil at a housing estate in front of a hotel in Subang Jaya. -- Bernama
